4x4 Model Tire Options

Anyone that builds 4x4 scale models knows there are few available options for upgrading your kit. This page lists all the tires I (and many others) have found that would work. If you have any other tires that can be added to this list or you have any missing measurements, feel free to email me.

NEWS!

NEW... Off road accessories Page! Shovels, jacks, etc. The page is new so check back often for updates. Click here to visit.

A few folks on the Desert Racing Modelers and Off Road Models website have ordered parts from Alan Raab (Ma's Resin) and have been VERY happy with his service and products. We give them a "thumbs up."

After much begging The Parts Box in Australia have started duplicating (resin casting) offroad tires. They are bringing out new ones often. Click here to see their sizes!

SELtd. is now offering a Dune Buggy kit. Originally the kit was a Revell accessory kit that came as part in other off road kits. The resin kit has desert tires (cast in a soft urethane) that might be of use for kitbashing. They are also available without the kit.. click here for info.

Being designed to fit a 1/20 wheel, the tire opening is a little big for 1/25 wheels. You will need to modify the wheel or use the rim that came with the kit.

If you have info about any of these tires/kits, please let me know.

Bburago diecast 1/26 Schlesser Dakar Buggy ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Jeryd found these wheels listed with a Baja Buggy buildup in one of the model magazines.

Look to be a VERY good representation of the newer tread pattern on BFGoodrich Baja TAs.

Being 1/26 scale they might be a little small, especially on a 1/24 truck.

Satco Bridgestone Desert Dueller ? ? ? ? ? ? photos from Richard Olson's website
Radio Shack's XMOD BFGoodrich ? ? ? ? ? v Radio Shack sold a series of 1/24ish RC off road trucks a few years back. Also sold serperatly was an upgrade kit with very realistic BFGoodrich tires. Though I don't know the exact size, they should be useable. These kits can still be found on eBay occasionally.
Revell's 1/25 Datsun King Cab 4x4 Goodyear Wrangler Radial ? ? ? ? ? ? Spotted on ebay this kit appears to have oversized tires that might be different than others listed above.
Revell's 1/25 Mr. Sandman Chevy Chevy: ?

Buggy's tires say: Sand Blaster Jr (front)
and
Sand Blaster 915 (rear)

? ? ? ? ? ? Dated 1981 this kit looks to have two options for possible tires... the truck and the buggy.

Resin copies of the buggy and tires are available from SELtd.

Revell (Germany) 1/16 Jeep CJ7 Goodyear GT Radial ? ? ? ? ? ? This kit is 1/16 scale so useablity will be limited.
Super Swampers ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Jeryd sent this lead... the Tumbler Batmobile from The Dark Knight has quad Super Swamper tires on the rear. He thought there was a kit in 1/24/25 but all I am finding are 1/32 model from Bandai and1/18 diecast from Hotwheels.

"the math"

I find it interesting that the model tire height in mm is almost exactly the same as inches in real life. So, use your metric ruler to get a quick guess of the size... want a 33" tire, find one that is 33mm.

*The math for 1/25: model's tire size in mm x 25 / 25.4 = real life tire size.
The math for 1/24: model's tire size in mm x 24 / 25.4 = real life tire size.

Let me know of any other tires that can be added to this list or have missing measurements.
